Manabe Garden is an outdoor garden visit in Obihiro, rather than a year-round indoor attraction. Pair it with food in the city after checking the garden's season and your return transport. This guide focuses on planning that visit; it does not promise flowers, autumn colour or wildlife on a particular date.
2026 opening season and shorter autumn hours
The garden's official homepage lists April 25–November 23, 2026 as its season. Check a new announcement for another year. Information here was checked on October 28, 2026.
The official visitor guide gives these hours: April–September 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.; October 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; November 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Autumn closing is earlier than summer closing. Choose an arrival that leaves time to explore, and confirm last-entry conditions before travelling.
Admission and the cafe are separate decisions
The official visitor guide lists admission at ¥1,200 for adults and ¥200 for elementary and junior-high school students. Check eligibility before relying on a concession. Older tourism listings may still show ¥1,000 for adults; use the garden's current information for your budget.
The official homepage lists the cafe's winter closure from early November to late April. An open garden in November does not guarantee a cafe lunch. Check the cafe's opening and last orders separately, or plan your meal in central Obihiro.
Getting there from Obihiro Station without a car
The Obihiro Tourism and Convention Association describes buses from Obihiro Station's bus terminal toward the western loop, technical high school and northern high school, getting off at Nishi 4-jo 39-chome (西4条39丁目), then walking about five minutes. Confirm the route direction, current stops and both journeys for your date rather than assuming every departure works.
That tourism page also retains previous-year season and fee information. Use it to identify a transport option, then return to the garden's own pages for current opening and admission. The address is Inadacho Higashi 2-6, Obihiro. Drivers should check the actual entrance and parking arrangements, including the journey back to the city for a meal.
What kind of garden visit is it?
The operator introduces Japanese, European and landscape-style garden areas. Consider it if your interest is in trees, garden design and a walk through changing scenery. Its map marks the interiors of Shinseikaku and the Red-roofed House as closed to visitors; do not plan around entering those buildings.
The photograph on this page shows the Japanese garden in May 2016, not conditions on your travel date. Plan clothes and footwear for an outdoor visit even when the cafe or other buildings appear in photographs.
A manageable half-day with Obihiro food
An editorial planning example is: confirm luggage storage near your base, travel to the garden, walk, then return to central Obihiro for a meal. Decide how much walking and photography you want, then work backwards from your return transport. Add actual transport, admission and food costs for everyone travelling.
If lunch comes first, set a time to leave the restaurant queue so you still reach the garden with time to explore. The Obihiro food guide helps choose pork bowls and sweets without turning the garden visit into a series of distant stops. Use the Hokkaido trip budget guide to compare the whole day with your wider itinerary.
Rain does not make this an indoor attraction. Bring suitable footwear and rain protection, and keep the option of shortening the walk. Ask the garden about the route and assistance you need if using a wheelchair or stroller; photographs alone cannot establish that every path suits your requirements.
