Sapporo Beer Museum is a history museum in eastern Sapporo. A self-guided visit is paid admission, with different booking and participation rules from guided tours and tasting. Start by deciding whether you want a Japanese-speaking guide or an audio guide in your own language.
Separate the museum, Beer Garden and Hokkaido Brewery
The museum is at Kita 7-jo, Higashi 9-chome 1-1, Higashi-ku, Sapporo. Hokkaido Brewery in Eniwa is a different facility. The operator explicitly says the museum has no beer-production equipment: check the venue and address rather than expecting a working production-line tour here.
The neighbouring Sapporo Beer Garden restaurants are also a separate part of the visit. Check whether you have arranged a meal, museum admission, a guided tour or tasting. A restaurant booking does not itself book the museum experience. This guide focuses on choosing a museum visit.
Self-guided admission: pay to explore at your own pace
General admission is ¥1,000 for ages 20 and over, ¥500 from junior-high-school age to under 20, and free for elementary-school children and younger. Hokkaido residents have separate rates with identification conditions; use the general rate when budgeting as a visitor. “Self-guided” does not mean free entry.
No reservation is required, and the operator offers advance and same-day tickets. Its visiting-time estimate is about 15–30 minutes, or 15–40 minutes with the audio guide. The smartphone-and-earphone audio service supports Japanese, English, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. Allow extra time for tasting, shopping and reaching the venue.
The route runs one way from the third floor through the second to the first, with slopes and stairs. A small lift is described for visitors with mobility needs or pushchairs; ask how to use it on arrival. Photography is permitted, but the operator asks visitors not to film video.
Standard guided tour: around 55 minutes, in Japanese, with tasting
The standard SAPPORO BEER MUSEUM Guide Tour lasts about 55 minutes including tasting. General prices are ¥2,000 for ages 20 and over, ¥1,000 from junior-high-school age to under 20, and free for elementary-school children. Preschool children cannot join, unlike the self-guided visit. Check every child’s eligibility before choosing.
The guided commentary is Japanese only; it is not the five-language self-guided audio service. The standard ticket includes museum admission and two tasting drinks, with age-specific differences such as one soft drink for elementary-school participants. Non-drinking adults are offered non-alcoholic or soft-drink alternatives.
Book ahead as the normal approach. Online reservations close at 09:30 on the day; only if places remain can the tour desk accept same-day participation up to 20 minutes before the start. Standard tours run on operating days except Mondays; when Monday is a public holiday, tours run Monday and pause Tuesday. Museum opening does not guarantee a tour. The special Black Label THE PERFECT TOUR has separate conditions: do not apply the standard tour’s price or age rules to it.
Do not plan to use only the Tasting Hall
The Tasting Hall after a self-guided visit charges separately from admission. The operator asks visitors not to use the hall alone and to follow the one-way exhibition route. Do not plan to skip admission and go directly to tasting.
Hall hours are 11:00–18:30, last orders 18:00, with a maximum 30-minute seating period. You may have to wait if full, and cannot join the queue after last orders. Alcohol is not served to people under 20 or to drivers. Include non-drinking companions’ choices and the journey home in the plan.

Separate exhibition, tasting and shop hours
The museum opens 11:00–18:00, with last admission at 17:30. All buildings close on 31 December, and temporary closures are possible. The shop is listed as open until 19:30; this does not extend exhibition admission.
A current notice says SAPPORO THEATER screenings pause for equipment inspection on Monday 25 January 2027, while other areas can be visited normally. This is not a whole-museum closure. Check the latest notices for your date.

Compare walking from Naebo with a bus from Sapporo Station
Official access is about an eight-minute walk from JR Naebo Station’s north exit, or ten minutes from exit 4 at Higashi-Kuyakusho-Mae on the Toho subway line. These are operator estimates, not guarantees covering snow, signals or finding an exit. Include the final outdoor walk when travelling in winter or carrying bags.
The operator lists Chuo Bus 188 from platform 2 at Sapporo Station’s north exit, or Loop 88 from Sapporo Eki-mae on the south side of Tokyu Department Store. Get off at Sapporo Beer Garden, beside the site. Check current Chuo Bus stops, times and the return service before setting out. This guide does not fix bus fares or departure times.
Choose your visit: common questions
Self-guided admission is worth comparing if you want another language, are visiting with preschool children or prefer your own pace. Compare the standard tour if you want Japanese commentary and its particular content, and can allow a roughly 55-minute session. This is an editorial decision aid, not an availability promise.
Is self-guided entry free? No: budget the general adult ¥1,000 separately from tasting. Does a full tour mean I cannot visit? Self-guided admission is a separate option, but check same-day operating information. Is a meal included? Confirm restaurant arrangements separately from admission and tours.
