Hoheikan is a historic former hotel building in Nakajima Park, known for its white walls and blue trim. General admission is ¥350 and regular last entry is 16:30. Evening opening, room hire and the cafe have separate conditions, so plan around what you want to use.
Visit a historic building in Nakajima Park
The address is 1-20 Nakajima Koen, Chuo-ku, Sapporo. Built as a Western-style hotel in 1880 and moved into Nakajima Park in 1958, Hoheikan is a National Important Cultural Property. Plan your visit using its current sightseeing and room-hire information.
A park walk to see the facade and a closer look at the interiors call for different amounts of time. Our editorial suggestion is to choose exterior or interior priorities first, then allow separately for the park approach and the building visit.

Look beyond the blue-and-white facade
The operator highlights the ultramarine trim, entrance pillars, balcony and plaster ceiling ornaments. The Sapporo Tourist Association also describes a recreated guest room and a historical video.
Read about the details that interest you instead of trying to absorb every style and motif at once. Some rooms are used for hire or events, so do not assume every room will always be in the same viewing condition. Ask about a particular room or display before making it essential to your day.

Regular last entry is 16:30; check the actual evening date
Regular visiting hours are 09:00–17:00, with entry until 16:30. Arriving at the deadline may leave little viewing time: allow for both looking around and leaving.
The operator lists evening opening on the fourth Friday and certain other dates, 09:00–20:00 with last entry 19:30. That does not mean every Friday or every night. Check the current notice for your date, and do not carry a previous special free evening into an ordinary visit.
Closure is the second Tuesday of each month, or the next weekday if it falls on a holiday, plus 29 December–3 January. Room hire from 17:00–22:00 is a separate use; it does not establish sightseeing access until 22:00.
Compare ¥350 admission with the actual concession rules
General admission is ¥350; high-school and university students pay ¥150; junior-high pupils and younger enter free. The listed general group rate is ¥300 per person for 20 or more, and an annual pass is ¥700. Compare tickets according to your group and planned return visits.
Exemptions involving disability certificates or an eligible app have conditions and can require an application. Ask which conditions apply to you and an accompanying carer instead of assuming a blanket exemption.
We cross-checked fees on 6 November 2026 against the Japanese and English operator pages and the tourism association. Distinguish the current general fee from older ¥300 listings, and recheck ticket types and any proof before paying. This guide makes no purchase or individual eligibility decision.

Harunire cafe closes at 15:00 in winter and requires admission
The first-floor Harunire cafe is listed as 11:00–15:00 from 1 November to 31 March and 10:00–16:00 from 1 April to 31 October. Building hours and evening opening do not set the cafe’s service window.
Building admission is also required to use the cafe. A drink-and-admission combination ticket is offered; check what the current ticket includes and what is available that day. Do not assume a drink alone grants access or that every entry ticket includes refreshments.
For a winter afternoon using both, one option is to work back from the cafe’s 15:00 finish and place the building visit around it. That is editorial planning advice, not a guarantee of a table, menu item or same-day opening.
Walk through the park from Nakajima-Koen exit 3
The official guide estimates about five minutes from exit 3 of Nakajima-Koen on the Namboku subway line, or about five minutes from Nakajima-Koen-Dori tram stop. Both involve outdoor walking after you arrive; do not plan on an underground connection to the building.
Snow, surfaces, bags and walking pace can change the estimate. Avoid aiming for the final admission minute, and check the park route and return journey. There is no general visitor car park; ask the venue about disability-parking arrangements if needed.
If you need to avoid steps or require wheelchair or stroller access, ask about the specific route before leaving. A short walking estimate does not guarantee an independently usable route for every visitor.
Photography and a park walk need their own checks
The operator’s photography notice says personal photography and sharing on social media do not require an application. Reporting, organized photography or cosplay using a hired room have separate application conditions. Check your intended use and follow on-site signs while respecting other visitors.
Even a mostly indoor winter plan includes the park approach. Shorten outdoor walking in poor weather, and check the cafe, hired rooms and events under their own conditions. A simple building visit should not depend on participation in an event you have not confirmed.

Checked Hoheikan’s visitor, cafe, English and photography pages and the Sapporo Tourist Association on 6 November 2026, Japan time.
