Compare Sapporo TV Tower, JR Tower T38 and Mount Moiwa by location, admission, last entry, weather and luggage before choosing your daytime or evening view.

Choose a Sapporo viewpoint by where you will be before and after it, then compare admission and visibility. Sapporo TV Tower, JR Tower T38 and Mount Moiwa are different outings. A lower ticket price or a later closing time does not necessarily make the best fit once transport and queues are included. Primary information below was checked on October 28, 2026.

Choose by location and the rest of your day

  • Sapporo TV Tower: compare it when your sightseeing is around Odori Park and you want to add an elevated city view to a central walk.
  • JR Tower T38: compare it when your day centres on Sapporo Station, shopping or a train journey. The city's official tourism guide places it in the station-connected JR Tower, reached by a dedicated lift from the sixth floor.
  • Mount Moiwa: choose it as a mountain excursion with travel to the base, a two-stage summit journey and a return plan. Use the dedicated ropeway guide for the actual route rather than treating it as another downtown tower.

These are editorial planning distinctions, not a ranking of views. Decide what you want to see and how much travel you want to add before buying tickets for several places.

TV Tower: tickets, last entry and closed dates

The official price and hours page lists 9 a.m.–10 p.m., last observation entry 9:50 p.m. Standard admission is ¥1,200 from high-school age and ¥600 for elementary/junior-high students; younger children are free. Special conditions or events can change the plan, so check before departure.

Listed full-building closures include November 11, 2026 and January 1, 2027. A sightseeing plan for those dates should not rely on the observation deck or the building's food court. Do not make the last-entry time your target arrival if you want a relaxed visit.

T38: station access and a different last-entry time

The operator's admission guide lists 10 a.m.–10 p.m., last entry 9:30 p.m., with a standard adult ticket of ¥740. Check the current age categories, concessions and holiday announcements before purchasing. It closes to new visitors earlier than TV Tower even though both list a 10 p.m. finish.

Station-connected does not mean you step straight from the train into the observation room. Leave time to find the correct building, reach the sixth-floor reception and take the dedicated lift. Work backwards from a train departure with enough margin to descend and reach your platform.

Mount Moiwa: separate transport and visibility checks

The ropeway operator publishes service notices and seasonal hours. Check these on the day as well as the forecast. A weather disruption to the ropeway is a different question from whether the city is visible from the summit; do not assume either from a general clear-sky icon.

For costs, include the summit route you actually intend to use and travel to and from the base. A ticket for only part of a journey is not automatically comparable with a downtown observation-room ticket. If your time is tight or conditions poor, compare postponing the mountain with a central visit rather than rushing a fixed sunset connection.

Luggage, re-entry and a fixed evening booking

The TV Tower FAQ says it does not store luggage and generally does not allow observation-deck re-entry. Arrange baggage storage elsewhere before heading there and choose your viewing time accordingly. Do not transfer those policies to T38 or Moiwa: ask each operator about your needs.

Keep dinner, a train or an airport connection separate from an observation deck's closing time. Allow for queues, the downward journey and luggage collection. An editorial sequence is to set the next fixed booking first, then the time to leave the attraction, then the time you want for the view.

Daylight, night views and where to stay

Low cloud and poor visibility can change the value of all three choices. Choose whether daylight detail, city lights or the wider mountain setting matters most, then check conditions near departure. The photograph here is a view from TV Tower in August 2023; it does not show today's weather and is not our own visit record.

Compare Sapporo accommodation areas with your evening return, and use the trip-budget guide to add transport and admission for everyone. For time between Sapporo Station and Odori, the underground-walk guide explains which parts of your city journey can be linked indoors. A second viewpoint is optional; one well-timed visit may fit the day better than collecting all three.
